For a large pharmaceutical company Panaxea was asked to perform a time-and-motion study to compare two administration methods of a medicine. Objectives were to 1) analyze the workflow in three peripheral hospitals; 2) identifying the… critical stages in the process of delivery of the medicine from the pharmacy to the patient; 3) observe resource use in hospitals; 4) discuss resource use in hospitals with pharmacists, nurses and physicians; 5) and to compute costs of both administration methods. Methods used were interviews with key-opinion leaders supported by a questionnaire to validate the generated data, followed by a time-and-motion study to measure the difference between both administration methods. Data served as input for the development of a cost-model.
