For a medical device company developing blood glucose meters, we performed a systematic literature review on self-monitoring of blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes. The report covered an analysis of the burden of the disease and the cost-effectiveness of blood glucose self-monitoring. Cost tables, specifying the cost items of diabetes and evidence tables of key papers were also included. The review resulted in an evidence-based value story of blood glucose self-monitoring. This would provide input to a brochure about the benefits of self-monitoring in several international markets that could be used in the marketing of these products.
